Rainforest After Dark Experience
Difficulty Levels
At night, the rainforest transforms into a magical kingdom that is full of strange and wonderful creatures. Explore and learn about the inhabitants of this mysterious realm. The national wildlife refuge where the tours take place is the best spot in the Costa Ballena area to see wildlife, especially mammals. We can't promise to see any specific animal, but frequent encounters include Two- and Three-toed Sloths, Kinkajous, Collared Peccaries, and during the wet season, Spectacled Caimans and the Red-eyed Tree Frog. However, wildlife is unpredictable and now knowing what we're going to see is part of the excitement!
Tour Highlights
Exploring the trails in search of wildlife
Although no animal is guaranteed on any given night, it is common to see sloths and kinkajous

Searching for caimans and other reptiles
Observe the bizarre and interesting insects that come out at night
Learn about the natural history of the area
Understand the special adaptations of the animals we see and how they fit into the larger ecosystem
